Voice work is an extremely important part of the acting technique. The voice is the instrument of the actor, his way to express and release emotions. Voice and body language need to be in tune. The binomials VOICE-BODY must pass truth to establish an immediate connection with the audience, who will experience various feelings.
Theater, Cinema and TV require different voice intensity as well as different physiognomy expressions, body language, positioning in relation to the audience and way of interpretation.
Theater demands greater voice intensity, i.e., greater vocal effort of the actors who must have the ability to project their voice to reach the “global space” of the theatre, even in an intimate scene. One of the greatest difficulties in this area is speak louder without losing the thrill of the voice.
TV and Cinema require less vocal effort but the microphones amplify the mouth breathing noisy and sibilant phonemes. Postures and gestures have to be more restrained as well as valuing the look and physiognomic expression: any exaggeration undermines the actor’s performance.
Remember: The voice can actually hinder the actor's free expression and a good vocal warm up helps actor's performances.
